Fertility preservation before medical treatment

A planned chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or surgery that may reduce future fertility. Timing is set with the treating team.

When a medical treatment may affect the ovaries or testes, fertility preservation is a separate, time-sensitive conversation. It has to fit the oncology or surgical calendar, not delay urgent care without the other team's agreement.

Options that are discussed Egg or embryo freezing when there is time for stimulation. Sperm freezing, which is often faster to arrange. Ovarian tissue freezing is mentioned only when it is genuinely the option under discussion, not as a routine offer.

What to bring The treatment plan, the name of the oncologist or surgeon, and the date treatment needs to start. A partner is welcome. Decisions about using a partner's sperm for embryos, rather than freezing eggs alone, are made explicitly.
